A Malcom IO game

QuillQuest

Spelling, times tables, division and touch typing in one adventure that grows with your kid — three subjects in the apps, all four in the browser. Fun, not childish.

Pick a subject: hear a word and spell it out, race the times-tables trail on a number pad, turn those tables around and divide, or learn the keyboard properly in a browser. QuillQuest turns practice into a quest — and builds real skill along the way. Great for grades 3–8 (roughly ages 8–14); one tap of your kid’s age sets the starting level and it moves with them from there, so younger and older learners fit right in too.

Free on iPhone, iPad, Android & the web — no ads, no in-app purchases. Want touch typing? Choose the browser. It needs a real keyboard, so the apps have spelling, times tables and division.

Why parents trust it

Private by design, and it really teaches

Made by a parent who wanted practice their own kids would actually choose.

Private by design — read our privacy policy, the information for schools, or get support.

What kids get

Four subjects, one real quest

  • Spelling — hear each word in a clear, natural voice, then spell it out. Over 3,400 words across ten levels, each with a definition and an example sentence.
  • Times tables — type every answer on a number pad, no multiple-choice guessing. Miss one and it shows the product with a skip-count, so it teaches instead of just marking it wrong.
  • Division — the times tables turned around, as its own ten-level trail. Get one wrong and it shows you the multiplication fact it comes from, because that is how you work it out: 7 times 8 is 56, so 56 divided by 7 is 8.
  • Touch typing — a real course, not a typing game: home-row key drills first, then real words, then whole sentences, all the way to the number row and symbols. Browser only, because it needs a real keyboard.
  • Master a level to unlock the next — never by grinding points — and whatever gets missed comes back on a smart review schedule.
  • One “you” across every subject: XP, ranks, badges, six themes, and a daily streak.
  • Ivy, a purple hedgehog holding a quillIvy
  • Owen, a sandy hedgehog holding a quillOwen
  • Mia, a ginger hedgehog holding a quillMia

Ivy, Owen & Mia read every spelling word aloud.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies your child

Student accountsNone. There is no sign-up, login, password or email address.
Personal information collectedNone. No name, age, email, phone number or precise location leaves the device.
AdvertisingNone. No ad networks, no sponsored content, no in-app purchases.
Analytics and trackingNone. No cookies, no trackers, no behavioral analytics, no fingerprinting.
Data sold or sharedNever. There is nothing to sell, and no third party receives student data.
Works offlineIn the apps, completely — extra voices and spoken example sentences download once from our content host and are then kept on the device. The browser version needs a connection: the page has to load, and it streams clips as it plays.
Syncing between devicesOptional, off by default, and set up by a grown-up. Practice progress and the cartoon buddy sync, under an anonymous code, so a grown-up can tell whose save it is — never a name or an age.
Age rangeRoughly 8–14 (grades 3–8). A learner’s age sets the starting level; harder levels are earned by mastering the one below.
CostFree. No paid tier, no trial, nothing to procure.

The full privacy policy spells out everything above, including the one thing a plain “we collect nothing” answer would gloss over: a request for a spoken clip necessarily names the word it speaks.

Filtering note for network administrators. QuillQuest is an educational practice app for grades 3–8. Audio clips are served from audio.malcom.io, and optional progress syncing uses sync.malcom.io. Neither carries advertising, trackers or any identifier for a student. If QuillQuest is blocked on your network and you would like it reviewed, please write to contact@malcom.io.
Sharing one computer? Each child gets their own profile, and QuillQuest asks who’s playing when it opens — any time more than one player is set up. Tap the right buddy and the round lands on the right child’s progress. You can also switch at any time from Settings → Players.
